Lamka, May 28 2014:
Barely two months after the Socio-Economic Development Organisation (SEDO) undertook the mammoth task of constructing an alternative route to connect Henglep with the district headquarters, the organisation has received a shot in the arm as the organisation recently procured a second-hand bulldozer.
The promise of completing the task by December this year has now become near possible with the purchase of the bulldozer.
SEDO has been undertaking the project sans Govt's assistance.
'As we are in the final stages of assembling the parts which came in pieces, our very own machinery will hit the construction site any time now,' said Lhunpu, the organisation's secretary today.
He was addressing the three ADC members from Henglep subdivision during a luncheon hosted by the later to honour of the novel and selfless pursuits of SEDO at the residence of ADC Churachandpur, Vice-Chairman, Demmang Haokip.
Demmang has represented Leimatak DCC that also falls under Henglep AC.
Detailing the donations made by individuals and organisations to meet the cash needed to purchase the heavy earth mover, SEDO leaders claimed that the attention and interest their project has drawn made them all the more determined in their pet project.
'Without the encouragement and backing of the chiefs' associations, who were the major donors and the individuals who contribute their might, our project will only remain a pipe dream.
Anyone can have a dream but SEDO's is taking shape to turn it into a reality,' added Lhunpu.
The organisation has spent about Rs 20 lakh for the second-hand bulldozer, and they are pinning the hope that their machine will take them to Henglep by December first week.
Despite the reservation of some of the ADC members who hosted them on the December deadline, the SEDO leaders stood to their ground, claiming the width of the road may not be up to the mark but they will dig their way through by December.
SEDO has maintained that the new road would cut-down the travelling distance between Henglep sub-divisional headquarters and the town by over a hundred kilometres and if maintained suitably will have a better chance to withstand weather than the sole NEC road that connects the interior subdivision through NH-150/Tipaimukh Road.
When asked if they have received any assistance or assurance from the Government, SEDO leaders responded in the negative but added, 'now that we have purchased a bulldozer, we believe that everyone will be aware that we mean business' .
'The government cannot simply ignore the will of its people.
The assistance and donations we have received clearly signify that the public is behind us.
So the Government can't simply turn their back on the road.
Once we dig our way through, we will plead and expect that the Government to take it over, black-top it and maintain it like any other highway' .
