MLA Th Shyamkumar and a team of the JAC on Mapithel Dam Affected Downstream Affected People visited the downstream villages this afternoon and they saw muddy water seeping from the dam to the downstream.
People's nagging fear about the possible collapse of Mapithel Dam has been exacerbated by the muddy water seeping to the downstream, said JAC secretary Kh Tenden.

At present, a large number of people are taking shelter at relief camps opened at different places.
Whereas many villages have been flooded on account of Mapithel Dam, people living in the downstream have been caught in a panicky situation as water has been seeping incessantly to the downstream.
On the other hand, Moirangpurel road was blocked today by aggrieved villagers against the Government's failure to take any remedial measures so far.
There are 1224 people crammed together in a relief camp at Moirangpurel.
Meanwhile, a public meeting was held today at Ibudhou Khamlangba-Huimuleima community hall and it resolved to shift all the people of downstream to safer places for the time being.
It further urged the Government to review its decision of keeping the dam gates closed.
