First lady Padmashree award winner from Manipur, Lhingjaneng Gangte w/o (L) Dr TS Gangte, former Director Education (U) passed away last night at 10.30 at Dimapur, Nagaland.
She was 79 .
Ex-nominated Member of the Manipur Territorial Council and member of Manipur State Commission for Women, Lhingjaneng Gangte spent her last days with her second daughter Patkim Gangte Imsong and family.
She left behind three children out of four, with several grandchildren.
Lhingjaneng was the first Manipuri woman to receive the prestigious Padmashree award for her dedication in the field of Social Welfare movement in Manipur.
Born on Dec 18, 1939 at Laijang village, Tamenglong to Jamkithang Sitlhou, Lhingjaneng was conferred Padmashree in 1975.Besides, she was also named "Woman of the Year 1997" by ABI, USA.
She was president of Manipur Council Child Welfare (1965-74) and held several other posts.
According to family members, her funeral service will be held at Churachandpur tomorrow.
The family has invited friends, associates and well wishers to pay their last respect to the departed soul.
The mortal remains of Lhingjaneng Gangte was brought from Dimapur today.
The body was taken to Churachandpur after a Church funeral service at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Chingmeirong this evening.
