Manipur State Kala Akademi, Imphal and Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi jointly organised the 10th Manipur State Art Exposition 2013 at State Art Gallery, Palace Compound today.
National Lalit Kala Akademi awardee Th Tombi and State Kala Akademi awardee Ch Premchand graced the occasion as chief guest and president respectively.
Giving keynote address, Art and Culture Director Dr K Sobita said that the art exposition was organised under the financial sponsorship of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
Paintings of 34 different painters were displayed at the exposition.
Noting absence of traditional paintings at the exposition, Dr Sobita regretted that traditional paintings are seemingly sidelined.
Five best exhibits displayed in the form of paintings, sculptures, graphics and drawings were selected and given prizes.
Works of Sanajaoba Tensubam (painting), Th Tulachandra (sculpture), S Samuel (graphic), L Gandhi (graphic), N Rajesh (drawing) were awarded cash prize of Rs 10,000 and certificate each.
Th Tombi while speaking at the function said that music, painting and poetry must go together as a collective art form.
However, these are taken as different arts and there is no concerted production or work in Manipur, he added.
He also stressed the need for opening an art gallery in Manipur.
