Kanggui, July 23 2013:
The distribution of Old Age Pension to elderly citizens of Kangpokpi, Saitu and Saikul continues at SBI Kangpokpi Branch, with many beneficiaries expressing gratitude to Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen for her initiative to provide the financial solace.
Noting that endeavour of the MLA had been the basis for the elderly citizens getting the benefits former president of Kanggui (Kangpokpi) Women Welfare Organization Hechin noted that in the past such noble schemes were not extended to many elderly persons of Kangpokpi who were eligible and entitled to get the benefit.
stating that there was no one who took the initiatives to cover elderly citizens with such scheme, Hechin contended that hope of many elderly persons of availing the benefit had faded away gradually since it became a practice in the constituency that only those persons got the scheme benefit who were close to the people's representatives.
She further elaborated that, there are many persons who availed and enjoyed the benefit of Old Age Pension though they were not yet eligible to get such facilities.
Expressing that the past irregularities clearly testify that corruption and discrimination were rampant, Hechin also pointed out that, officials of Social Welfare Department or someone holding responsible office were not concerned about the plight of the elderly citizens.
Contrary to these officials assuring the pension benefit would be extended to the elderly persons many of them could not access to such noble projects as the assurance were not translated into action thereby.
hailing the local MLA for abolishing all malpractices of the past and working for the welfare of the elderly citizens in particular and the public in general, the former president exuded confidence that Nemcha Kipgen would continue to serve the people by judiciously implementing all welfare programmes.
She also conveyed gratitude to Mother's Union, which has been established by the MLA to set things in order, for their significant initiatives in bringing the Old Age Pension Scheme in the right path.
