Imphal, September 22 2021:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, while attending State Government's community outreach programme held today at Tamenglong Polo Ground, said that all health centres in the districts of Chandel, Tamenglong and Churachandpur will have access to 24 hour electricity through solar by January.
He also thanked SELCO Foundation and partners for collaborating with district administrations and the State Health Department to power and revitalize healthcare systems.
The program is being funded by Crypto Relief, which was set up to provide healthcare and essentials to those fighting for survival against COVID-19, said a statement of Crypto Relief.
In the past 4 months, the fund has attracted more than USD 440 mn and is working closely with partner organizations NGOs, and hospitals to support the Government of India's efforts in responding to the pandemic, it said.
On this, founder of Crypto Relief Sandeep Nailwal said, "The team at Crypto Relief realises the potential that solar powering health centres will enable a foundation to impact health indicators on the ground in these districts.
This program will allow the Crypto Relief team to bring together a consortium of partners in these districts to plug gaps to holistically impact the health system through our district full-stack approach" .
Over the last 5 years, SELCO Foundation has worked across levels within the health system, implementing over 1000 sustainable energy driven interventions across the Health Value chain including Anganwadis (childcare centers), Primary Health Centers, Sub centers, NGO-run hospitals and mobile health units, reaching more than 3 million end-users across 12 Indian States, it said.
This effort was possible through close collaboration with local Health NGOs, local Government agencies, district administration and health officers who were critical in championing these solutions and ensuring their sustainability, it said.
In light of the collaboration in Manipur, Harish Hande, CEO of SELCO Foundation, said "We are honoured to partner with the State of Manipur to showcase the importance of decentralized energy in enabling delivery of essential health services to every resident of Manipur.
We hope this collaboration will become a model of sustainable delivery of health services to other parts of the world" .
This partnership between Government of Manipur, District Administrations of Tamenglong, Chandel, Churachandpur, Crypto Relief and SELCO Foundation seeks to create a scalable model for health facilities to become more resilient to future emergencies and well-equipped to meet the needs of the remotest and poorest communities in Manipur.
It is helping create socially, financially and environmentally sustainable assets and infrastructure in the most vulnerable parts of the country, it added.
