Imphal, December 20 2020:
The State's war on drugs would have no meaning if it doesn't approach a higher Court and pursue the 2018 high profile drug haul case, said United Front Manipur chairman Sapam Samungou today.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club today, he said that the State Government should take the responsibility of moving a higher Court in the case.
This comes after the Special Court ND&PS on December 17 acquitted former BJP ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou and several others in the 2018 drug case.
Samungou said that Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Cabinet members should introspect why MPS officer Th Brinda, whom the CM had given Gallantry Medal, has returned the award.
The Government should understand the gesture of the lady officer and acknowledge it.
The Government should hear the public cries against drugs, he said.
Samungou further stated that drug cases in Manipur should be probed by an independent body like the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) .
The State Government should encourage and aid willing officers who are fighting drug problems, he said.
"During Anglo-Manipur War, Paona Brajabashi had requested Konung for supply of cannons, but this was not given.
He had to fight the enemy without the cannons.
This is the case happening with Th Brinda.
People should stand with and for truth," Samungou said.
