World Philosophy Day observed

Philosophy Department of DM College of Arts observed World Philosophy Day at the college premises today.
Felicitation of Philosophy teachers and holding a lecture programme on the topic, 'Study of Philosophy: A need of the hour' were the main highlights of the observance.
Principal of DM College of Arts Dr A Nungshitombi, Economics Department Head of DM College of Arts, M Ibohal graced the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Noted filmmaker and former Philosophy teacher of the college, Aribam Syam Sharma, Prof S Shyamkishore Singh, Dr M Kriti, Dr A Dorendro and Prof Soyam Lokendrajit were felicitated at the function.
In his keynote address, Dr Kh Gokulchandra said that the third Thursday of November is observed as World Philosophy Day every year since 2005 .
Although, most students did not prefer to learn Philosophy in the past due to a wrong notion, the number of students who opt for the subject is increasing considerably in the past two-three years, he added.
Saying that the Philosophy Department of DM College of Arts has 700 students, the Professor said that students of the college secure most of the top ranks in the examinations conducted by Manipur University.
Dr Nungshitombi said that Philosophy is needed in every aspects of human life.
Philosophy is the origin of every subject, that is why the title, 'Doctor of Philosophy', is awarded to research scholars after the successful completion of their research works.
M Ibohal said that most of the questions of the competitive examinations conducted by UPSC are based on logic and philosophy.
That is why, students who are strong in Philosophy subject, can easily get through these examinations, he added.
Prof S Lokendrajit gave a lecture on the topic, 'Study of Philosophy: A study of the hour' .
