Govindas Konthoujam takes charge as president of MPCC

Govindas Konthoujam today assumed charge as president of MPCC at Congress Bhavan, BT Road in the presence of the outgoing president M Okendro Singh and other senior Congress leaders, following his appointment by Sonia Gandhi on December 14 .
He expressed gratitude to the leaders of INC and thanked Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for entrusting him with such a big responsibility, said a statement released by MPCC.
Before he took over charge as president of MPCC, he visited Shree Sliree Govindajee Temple, Palace Compound and Umang Lai deity located inside MPCC complex and prayed for the peace, integrity, good health, and development of the State in particular and India at large, added the statement.
Govindas Konthoujam is the son of (late) K Gojendro Singh of Ningthoukhong Ward No 2 .
Born on March 1, 1963 in a family of social activist and active member of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (I) he was educated at Rama Krishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, West Bengal, Board of Secondary Education Karnataka and Manipur University.
His activities in soci f included the Chairmanship of Gojendro Trust, Ningthoukhong; Patron member-District Sport Association (DSA).
Bishnupur: Member of International Society for Krishna Consciousness ('ISKCON); Life Member of Art of Living and member of All Moirang Football Association Moirang (AMOFA) .
In the political field, he joined MPCC(I) in 1985 and became the president of Bishnupur District Youth Congress Committee (I) in 1993 .
Govindas Konthoujam was first elected as MLA from 26-Bishnupur Assembly Constituency in 1995 and was re-elected again in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2012, during which tenure he held portfolios including PWD, YAS & Tourism, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Sericulture and Commerce and Industries, said the statement.
Govindas Konthoujam visited Paris and implementation of 1st Sewage Project of Manipur under EPA, 2004 .
He also also visited various foreign nations to attain siminars including Malaysia and Singapore for seminar on HIV/AIDS and People of South East Asian Countries in 2010; Japan in 2012 to participate in the 'Indian Business Show', Myanmar as member of deligation let by the Chief Minister of Manipur on institutional tour.
Singapore to attend Asian Investor Meet; in 2014; Japan again in 2013 to renegotiate with JAICA for funding of Manpur Sericulture Project Phase II and Australia in 2011 on the study tour on HIV/AIDS'; added the satatemnt release by MPCC.
