Chiulon about to reach Somalia

Imphal, November 15 2020:
Satellite radio transmitter tagged Amur Falcon, Chiulon, which rested in Manipur for a few days, is closing in towards Somalia and may reach the country late today or tomorrow.
According to the Wildlife Institute of India, the Amur Falcon which was refitted transmitter on, November 13, had set for Somalia this time as well after crossing Maharashtra.
Chiulon is now flying over the Arabian Sea and well ahead of another Satellite tagged Amur Falcon 'Irang', the Wildlife Institute of India said.
Irang will be reaching Somalia in two days or so, it said.
The migratory birds had a brief sojourn at Chiulon and other few villages in Tamenglong district for the second time before leaving for South Africa.
On the other hand, the daughter of Manipur Governor, Asama Heptulla is expecting to visit Chiulon village to have a glance of the visiting Amar Falcons.
Ahead of Asama's visit, DFO Tamenglong Kh Hitler today visited and took a stock of the site today.
The DFO stated that lakhs of Amur Falcons are being witnessed everyday.
These birds usually leave the site by around November 20 but how long will these birds stay this time is uncertain, he said.
With care and support from the Forest Department, NGOs and people, cases of hunting and killings have been reduced greatly, he said while appealing all to ensure safe return of these birds from South Africa.
It is said that Church members of the Chiulon village prayed for the safe and successful journey of the migratory birds.
