Imphal, May 15 2011:
Demanding inquiry and justice over the suspicious manner in which Hijam Ningol Laitonjam Ongbi Darsana (25) was found dead hanging from the ceiling fan inside her own room in her husband's house, Meira Paibis and local clubs staged a protest demonstration at the gate of Gonvindajee Temple at Palace Compound today.
Darsana had been married to one Laitonjam Devendrajit (32) of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai just around 2 months when she was found dead hanging on May 12 afternoon.
The maternal family members of Darsana have suspected some possible foul play behind the incident.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Hijam Chaoba, grandmother of the deceased housewife, said that the circumstances in which her granddaughter Darsana was found dead hanging from the ceiling fan inside her own room of her husband's house is suspicious.
''So, I want the Government to institute a inquiry into the incident and do justice to my granddaughter'', Chaoba said.
The grandmother informed that when they reached the house of Darsana's husband on hearing the news, Darsana was found still hanging from the ceiling fan with no one in the family including the husband even trying to put her down or take her to the hospital.
Such conduct of the family members of the husband is suspicious even more over possible involvement of some foul play.
The grandmother further informed that Darsana had also disclosed to the maternal family members how she was constantly tortured by her husband over dowry.
The marriage between Darsana and Devendrajit was solemnised at Devendrajit's house.
So, Darsana did not brought any dowry.
Darsana had even shown the scars on her body.
The grandmother recalled that when the maternal family members went to Singjamei police station to register an FIR, the Second OC informed that a case has already been registered by the husband and no new case could be registered over the same incident.
When they reached the RIMS morgue too, OC of Singjamei Police told them that the body could be handed over only after the two families arrived at an agreement.
But the OC took the side of Devendrajit and let the body be taken by the family members of Devendrajit in a DI Tata.
When the maternal family members and other local people pro0 tested and tried to stop the body from being handed over to the family members of Devendrajit, they were threatened by showing knives and other sharp weapons.
