Tengnoupal, December 11 2018:
Refuting various claims made by organisations that the land where Ima Kondong Leirembi is now is tribal land, Ima Kondong Lairembi Thougal Lup president N Phulindro has alleged that the land belongs to the lup and it has legitimate rights.
Speaking to media persons, N Phulindro alleged that area has been a designated place of worship for the Meiteis before WW-II and added that an agreement was reached on February 25, 1997 by four organisations including Meitei Council Moreh and Hill Tribal Council Moreh to give shelter to the tribal refugees at the place with proper demarcation of the land.
The ongoing construction of houses in the area is for the caretakers of the Ima Kondong Lairembi, he said and added that they have legitimate pattas/papers of the land.
The pattas along with 'No Objection Certificate' were procured from the Moreh Small Town Committee in 1988, he claimed and added that the details of the agreement and others can be had from the Meitei Council Moreh and Hill Tribal Council Moreh.
Interested persons may also meet the persons who took part in the agreement, he said.
He urged student organisations and others to refrain from making press statements without actual and proper knowledge of the agreement and the issue saying such comments have the capacity to create tension between various communities of the State.
