Imphal, September 11 2014:
Manipur State Nationalist Congress Party, (NCP Manipur Unit) has expressed its support for the State Government's decision regarding the Ukhrul issue.
A statement issued by the NCP Manipur Unit president MLA L Ibomcha Singh stated that residents of Ukhrul District, though majority of whom would support public security, are driven to unrest, for years, by the two NGOs, the UNC and NSCN(IM).
Led by these two organisations, the State has borne witness to number of bandhs and blockades in the Ukhrul district including cases of VIP ambush and murder attempts.
The statement urged the State Government to present all the facts and figures of these incidents before the Central Government for their knowledge.
It further called for support from the State Government, hill and valley district politicians and civil organisations in the process so that the Central Government could label these organisations, UNC and NSCN (IM), Unlawful Organisations and further detain its leaders under NSA.
The statement further appealed to the State Government to organise a full fledged cabinet meeting in the Ukhrul District Headquarters to discuss the issue.
NCP Manipur Unit also condoled the death of the two civilians and one police commando in the Ukhrul incident.
Extending their support to the bereaved family members, the party also prayed for speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.
