Awareness programme on agriculture and allied activities

A one-day awareness cum training programme on agriculture and allied activities was held today at Upokpi Mamang community hall in Bishnupur district.
The awareness programme was organised by the Greater Upokpi Farmers' Club under the sponsorship of Directorate of Extension Education, CAU Imphal.
Addressing the programme as chief guest, Minister of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Govindas Konthoujam stated that his department would begin implementing the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) to the letter and spirit starting from this year.
Even as several funds were sanctioned under RKVY since the past three years for initiating different programmes through Agriculture, Fishery and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry departments, the same funds could not be utilised properly.
Director of Extension Education, CAU Prof M Premjit said that the awareness programme was aimed at increasing annual yield and ultimately economic alleviation of the farmers.
Head of Animal Science Department Dr M Dhaneshwar and four subject matter specialists of KVK Imphal East Andro imparted training to the farmers on different topics.
Later, around 500 chicks of Giriraja breed were distributed to 50 farmers from the side of CAU .
