Imphal, July 09 2021:
Urging the government to extend help when members of local clubs, who have been extending voluntary service at the local CHICs and contributing their mite in combating Covid-19, contracted the infectious disease, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) said that the activities of the local clubs should not be devalued.
In a release, AMCUO assistant secretary MM Thambou stressed the need for fighting the virus collectively as it spreads irrespective of geographical locations and affects everyone, regardless of poor or rich.
When volunteers of local clubs, who have been at the forefront of fighting the pandemic, contract Covid-19 they generally face serious inconveniences in getting admission to hospitals or Covid Care Centres, the secretary noted.
Moreover, when they isolate themselves at home, they are left alone without any support and nobody to look after them.
This will dishearten and discourage the volunteers who are fighting against Covid-19 for the people, he opined.
Urging hospitals and Covid Care Centres to treat the volunteers properly so as to keep their spirit high, Thambou exhorted the government to extend help to the volunteers when infected by the virus while fighting against it.
He pointed out that when members of local clubs who volunteered themselves in Covid Care Centres get infected by the virus, they need to bring their own foods while staying in Covid Care Centres.
Seeking the attention of the government on the matter, Thambou appealed to the government to provide foods for the Covid infected volunteers as a mark of respect to their sacrifices as Covid warriors.
Pointing out that many members of local clubs and organisations, who are working with AMUCO, have been combating the pandemic since its onset last year and many have been infected by the virus, Thambou continued that many volunteers have also been infected during the second wave but despite their selfless work they are hardly provided any notable assistance.
Meanwhile, continuing the efforts of reaching out to the needy people, AMUCO along with All Thoubal District United Clubs' Organisation (ATDUCO) distributed essential items to 200 households in four villages under Thoubal district on Friday.
Among others, the distribution programme was attended AMUCO organisation secretary (In-Charge) Koijam Santosh Meitei and ATDUCO president Loitam Rajen.
AMUCO has provided edible items to 5,842 families so far, Thambou said.
