Imphal, July 07 2014:
The capping, lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony of the 8th batch of ANM/FHW students of L Chaobi Nursing Institute was held at the institute's auditorium, Porompat Pong Lambi today.
The programme was presided by the Imphal East district Additional SP W Singhajit, the Principal of the institute, AK Bijanti and H Rakhon as chief guest, president and guest of honour of the ceremony respectively.
Principal AK Bijanti, in her speech, explained that the Capping ceremony is markedly different from university convocation programme.
The programme is intended to introduce the students to clinical learning during the first year of the course after a brief introduction to theory paper.
Lamp lighting, she added, is of major importance to a nurse's career.
It is celebrated in honour of Florence Nightingale who introduced modern nursing.
The Oath taking is a ritual which is aimed at deriving sincerity and dedication for the work.
Chief guest W Singhajit speaking on the importance and responsibility of a nurse said that it is more than often that we find people blaming the hospital and staff for death or illness related events or incidents.
W Singhajit adds that it should rather be left to the State authorities to decide.
The law is there to provide justice and people should understand that.
