Imphal, December 02 2022:
The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has urged schools to refrain from charging more than the prescribed fees set by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) for Higher Secondary and Class XI examination form fill up.
A statement issued by KSA has stated that COHSEM has fixed the fees after thoroughly considering the costs of an exam and schools of the State ought to follow the fee structure set by COHSEM.
In cases where certain schools disagree with COHSEM's fee structure, or feel it is unfair, then they can approach the Council with their grievances and try to rectify the matter before the examinations, the statement added.
However, the student community will not take kindly to schools charging more than the prescribed fees, KSA noted.
KSA also pointed out that a large portion of households are financially unstable and struggling to meet their daily needs.
Charging more fees from such families will cause insurmountable hardships to them, the statement opined.
The students' body also instructed schools who have already charged more than the prescribed fees to return the balance to the respective students and appealed against transforming education into a money-making business.
With regards to this issue of excessive charging of fees for form fill up, KSA expressed shock at the lack of action from the Council as well as the Education (S) Department.
As such, KSA has called upon the relevant authority to look beyond personal gains and work towards developing the education sector of Manipur.
Stating that education is the backbone of society and that a society cannot progress without significant progress in the education sector, KSA has urged the relevant authority to emulate the steps and measures taken by other developed nations in the realm of education.
