President visit likely on Apr 15

President of India, Pranab Mukherjee is likely to visit the State in connection with the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Adimjati Siksha Ashram on April 15.This was conveyed by Deputy CM Gaikhangam during an inspection of Adimjati Siksha Ashram Complex at Chingmeirong today.
Dy CM Gaikhangam said the President's visit would be his maiden visit to the North Eastern States since he took charge as the President.
Pranab Mukherjee will unveil a Jubilee plague to commemorate the 60th year of the Ashram besides laying the foundation for constructions of a Tribal Working Women Hostel, a Tribal Boys' Hostel and Tribal Hall.
Adimjati Siksha Ashram was founded sixty years back with the assistance of the first President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad.
Pointing out that the high profile visit would be a boost for the State, Gaikhangam urged all concerned to accord a warm welcome to the First Citizen of the Country.
He said preparation for the President's visit and necessary provision for renovation and improvement of the campus would be discussed with the CM.
The President reportedly had given his assurance to visit the State on April 15 to the Chairman of the Ashram and former CM Rishang Keishing, who is also the incumbent Rajya Sabha MP.
Rishang Keishing said the President would also be beseeched to inaugurate the 50 bedded Tribal Working Women Hostel, 50 bedded Tribal Boys Hostel and a Tribal Hall when completed.
The Deputy Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP were also accompanied by MTDC Chairman, Manga Vaiphei; Parliamentary Secretary, Victor Keishing and Additional Chief Secretary, Ameising Luikham.
Fielding queries from the accompanying media persons, the Rajya Sabha MP said smuggling of drugs in the State could be effectively checked with the intervention of religious leaders, public and each member of the families.
He also strongly advocated stringent action against the involvement of various big guns in drug smuggling in the State.
