The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Union, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) has drawn the attention of the State Government and authority concerned to its various grievances yesterday .
The student body said that even after IGNTU had made several promises to provide hostel/accommodation facilities for students and quarters for teaching and non-teaching staff, no initiative has been taken up till date .
It also said that the newly appointed Director, Professor Ram Jeevan Singh had assured that the guest faculties for the Department of Tribal Studies and Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology will be re-engaged before the new session but no steps have been taken up till now .
It further alleged that the disbursement of monthly stipends for students has been delayed for no valid reason while stating that each department in the varsity have 30 intake capacities but the authority concerned had declared the results of only 13 candidates for each department despite the fact that the students have barely a week to start the next session .
While demanding that the grievances be addressed within five days, the student union warned that it will be compelled to take recourse to sustained agitations and strikes in case their appeal is not heeded.
The students union added that the university authorities should bear all responsibilities of unwanted incidents.
