Workshop on 'IT Act, Copyright and Cybercrime' held

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Manipur Technical University organised a day long workshop on 'IT Act, Copyright and Cybercrime' at Govt Polytechnic auditorium (temporary campus) today .
Sapam Dilip Singh, Lecturer, LMS Law College; DSP John, Cyber Crime Cell Division and Koushik Maiti, Cyber Security & Cyber Forensics, CDAC Kolkata were present as resource persons .
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Professor Chiranjiv Chingabam stated that increased internet penetration has given exponential rise in sophisticated attacks on Information Technology infrastructure .
He pointed out that cyber attackers are gaining access to sensitive information like credit card details and other financial information .
He observed that there is a need for cutting edge research and development efforts in cyber security in order to make IT infrastructure resilient against such threats .
The world over, more and more personal, Government and business information is being generated and stored on computers.
However, computers are not completely trustworthy when it comes to securing information, he stated .
HOD, Computer Science and Engineering, Jimmy Laishram stated that the workshop was organised with an aim to provide participants with in depth knowledge and skills to protect their information assets .
He further stated that the skills learnt from the workshop will help the participants take the necessary steps to mitigate their risks.
