Bishnupur, December 27 2015:
Waterways to Karang have been blocked by overgrowth of Phumdis for the last ten days, our correspondent reports.
With the waterways blocked, residents have been compelled to go upto either Thanga Chinglak Thongkhong or Sendra.
It usually took 15 minutes to travel from Karang to Thanga Chinglak Thongkhong or Sendra by the waterway which has now been blocked but travelling to these places by land routes takes almost one hour.
Karang Island Development Organisation (KIDO) president Salam Kheda Singh said the overgrowth of Phumdi around Karang has completely closed off transportation for the islanders.
The organisation president has appealed to the State Government to take up necessary action at the earliest.
Tourists, on the other hand, have expressed disappointment with the negligence of the State Government in the removal of Phum from Loktak lake.
