Imphal, July 26 2015:
The Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development (MAHUD) examination for the post of Executive and Assistant Executive conducted by the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) was disrupted as volunteers of Joint Students' Union of Government Higher Secondary Schools (JSUGHSS) today created a commotion at Ibotonsana Girls Higher Secondary School centre demanding termination of the examination.
A total of 400 candidates turned out to appear for the examination which began from 9 am today.
About one and half hour after the commencement of the exam, 20 volunteers of the JSUGHSS stormed the exam centre, over powering the security personnel posted at the school gate demanding immediate termination of the ongoing examination.
Inside the school campus, JSUGHSS volunteers started vandalising school furniture and other properties.
The examination was immediately terminated as the situation went out of control.
The candidates rushed out of the school campus as the situation became unstable.
Two candidates who sustained minor injuries were admitted to RIMS hospital, sources said.
While one of them was hit by a stone hurled by the mob the other was hit by a glass shard from a broken window caused by missles thrown by the protesters.
Later a team of police led by Imphal West SDPO reached the area and inspected the destruction.
Police were unable to collar any of the attackers as they had fled the school campus before.
Meanwhile, the students' body, during a press meet has condemned the alleged manhandling of the JSUGHSS volunteers by police personnel.
According to L Rajesh, general secretary of Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School a team of JSUGHSS reached Ibotonsana Higher Secondary school at around 10.30 am to meet the school authorities.
The team was however barred entry by the security personnel posted at the gate.
Enraged by the attitude of the security personnel, the team tried to force open the school gate which resulted in a dispute between the two parties.
The security personnel allegedly thrashed the volunteers with sticks and shoes and manhandled the female volunteers.
Mention may be made, Government higher secondary schools have been under indefinite shut down over the ILP demand.
As such, the allocation of exam centres in these schools invited objections from the pro-ILP supporters.
The students' body is likely to continue with its agitation.
It has further stated that it will also shut-down private schools and institutions as its next move.
