Imphal, February 24 2013 :
A four-day workshop on 'Management of Voluntary Club Libraries of Manipur' has begun from today at Manipur Press Club.
The workshop is being organised by Manipur Library Association (MALA) under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation (Kolkata) and directorate of art and Culture (Manipur).
As chief guest of the workshop inauguration function, Langthabal AC MLA K shyam Singh regretted that inspite of Manipur having 144 youth organisations having library facilities the number of readers is still very low.
|
He also lamented non implementation of Manipur Library act and expressed hope that the issue would be raised in the State assembly for its early implementation.
Government Polytechnic Imphal Librarian K Chaoba Singh in his address strongly advocated promotion of library movement in the State and suggested that Government provide requisite assistance to open libraries in all clubs.
Apart from inculcating habit of reading among youths providing library facility would be a source of income for local clubs, he said.
