Foundation stone for Integrated Cold Chain Centre laid

The foundation stone for construction of the Integrated Cold Chain Centre was laid today at Kwasiphai of Bishnupur district by Govindas Konthoujam, Minister of Commerce and Industries in the presence of MLA of Oinam AC, Dr I Ibohalbi Singh.
The project has been taken up under the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur.
In his speech, Govindas said that the project will help in reducing the problem of wastage of vegetable produce significantly and will also ease marketing problems being faced by the farmers.
He added that this project will provide job opportunities to the unemployed youths of the State.

A processing plant will also be included as a part of this project where farmers will be trained on various aspects of Horticulture and allied sectors, he added.
He also stressed on the need to focus on organic farming by the farmers, so that they can exponentially increase their income.
Before laying the foundation stone, Minister Govindas also inaugurated a newly constructed building of the Kwasiphai Maning Primary School.
MLA Ibohalbi expressed his gratitude to the Government for bringing such an initiative in that side of the State where Horticultural products contribute around 35-40 per cent of the total State produce.
He also lauded the Government for improving the power sector considerably in the last few years.
The formal function was held at the Ibudhou Chothe Thamai Pakhangba Community Hall.
The function was attended by T Pamei (IAS), Commissioner, Horticulture; K Kipgen, Director, Horticulture and important officials among many others.
