Imphal, September 23 2015 :
Zomi Human Rights Foundation (ZHRF) has expressed concern over the prevailing Manipur situation in the aftermath of passing of the three Bills by the special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly on Aug 31 .
The Foundation observed that the three Bills were passed after the members had a discussion for a period of about 20 minutes in the Special Assembly and this acts as a catalyst to massive protest against the flouting of all process of a democratic set up, according to a ZHRF statement.
The indigenous tribal of Manipur objected the three Bills and as such the public at large gathered and formed Joint Action Committee, Camp Churachandpur to take an initiative to spearhead democratic forms of agitation, peaceful rally, demonstration and an intellectual conclave in protest against the three Bills.
The Foundation therefore, expressed that the Rule of law be rigorously established and maintained in respect to land, territories and resources of the indigenous tribal people.
Effective remedial mechanism for the protection of the land and resources of the tribal peoples must be made available and legally enforceable.
A law against the indignation held towards the indigenous tribal must be established so as to establish the rule of law and consistently must be applied by the State for the establishment of a just and democratic adoption of laws, including international human rights and humanitarian law, it said.
Further, for the ends of all forms of discrimination, psychological ordeal, political domination, and social unrest, the creation of a separate administration, which is feasible, is an answer for a sustained, durable peace and tranquillity in the State, it added.
