Imphal, January 23 2018:
Decrying the alleged lapses and inconsistencies in the Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills (TA & Hills) in connection with the post matric scholarships for ST students, the North East Students Society, Delhi University (NESSDU) has raised several demands including immediate disbursement of the said scholarships for the year 2016-17 .
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, NESSDU general secretary Dahrii Vemai informed that the post matric scholarships for 2016-17 have not been disbursed till date for the students studying outside the State.
He further said that the department had even made it mandatory to fill up the amount received in the previous year while filling up forms for applying the post matric scholarship (ST) for 2017-18 and the submission of forms was closed on December 20 last year.
As the post matric scholarship for 2016-2017 is yet to be given out, students who applied for post matric scholarship this year did not write the amount received in the previous year at the time of form submission while many others are yet to submit till today.
Many students who study outside the State also applied for the scholarship this year online as TA & Hills accepts both online and offline applications.
However, at the time of listing the names for the selected/accepted applicants for the post matric scholarship this year, students/applicants who did not mention the amount received in the previous year and applied through online were all rejected, the general secretary conveyed.
He then demanded the department and the State Government to extend the deadline for submission for applications and accept the forms submitted by applicants without filling the amount received in the previous years.
The pending scholarship for the year 2016-17 should be disbursed immediately by the Department of TA & Hills, Vemai demanded.
He asserted that the non-disbursement of the scholarship amount for ST students studying outside the State has created severe difficulties and inconveniences in meeting the cost of their study.
