Imphal, January 21 2021:
'Manipur People's Bill, 2018 which contains provision allowing outsiders to buy land anywhere in Manipur need not be discussed again', said Federation of HAOMEE.
A statement issued yesterday by the Federation of HAOMEE alleged that the Manipur People's Bill, 2018 is not meant for protection of the indigenous people rather it is meant to dissipate the indigenous people from the State of Manipur, which is made clear by the fact that the Central Government extended the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 ILP System in Manipur instead of the Bill in question.
The federation questioned how the indigenous people of the State will be protected when every group or community that migrated to the State are included as indigenous in the draft Bill.
Sapamcha Jadumani, president of HAOMEE questioned whether it was morally right to take aid from the Government for treatment of injured protesters or compensation for loss of lives during ILP protest.
He added that there were still a lot of loopholes in the ILP System which was implemented in Manipur as a result of the relentless effort of the people.
The federation was prepared to extend assistance to the Government to mend these loopholes, added the statement.
