Kanggui, February 20 2014 :
Vehemently condemning the alleged harassment of S Bongyang villagers under Saikul subdivision in Sadar Hills by 16 AR of 10 Sector on Feb 17 and the subsequent arrest of Damkhosei alias Seipu Khongsai S/o (L) Ngamlhun Khongsai, the Kuki Students' Organisation Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) warned of launching agitation to secure the release of Seipu, who the KSO claimed him as innocent villager.
Thangminlen Kipgen, President KSO Sadar Hills alleged that on the fateful night of Feb 17 troops of 16 Assam Rifles who are on duty had visited S Bongyang village and ordered the villagers to prepare them a meal as if the villagers are on their pay roll which is unconventional.
Nonetheless, the villagers at the behest of the village chief unhesitatingly have served them a meal.
However, later in the night at around 11 pm the same AR troops covertly came back and arrested an innocent villager Damkhosei alias Seipu without producing any arrest memo only to be claimed later as an over ground KLA activist on local papers, Thangminlen Kipgen said.
Letmang Khongsai, chief of Bongyang village has also the arrested man is his bonafide villager and innocent, the KSO leader quoted him.
If Seipu Khongsai was to be arrested they could have arrested him in the broad day light when they first came in during the day and why late at night, Thangminlen questioned while adding that if he happens to be a KLA activist as claimed by the AR they should have explicitly stated to which KLA factions he belongs with any incriminating documents or whatever recovered.
The student body also claimed that the statement of PRO IGAR (S) published on February 20 on some of the local dailies is absurd as the arrested person is not in the custody of Lamlai PS but was handed over to Yairipok PS.
The people of Manipur are well versed on the modus operandi of the Assam Rifles, the KSO said.
