Imphal, August 16 2016:
North East Indigenous People's Parliament (NIPP) and Tripura People's Front jointly observed International Day of World Indigenous People, 2016 at Khumulwng in Tripura on August 9 .
NIPP coordinator Ningthoucha Lancha said that the delegates of the observation unanimously affirmed to stand collectively against any form of political mechanism or act framed by the Government of India that may further provide provisions for recognition of illegal immigrants settled in the North East States as Indian citizen without historical legality as it may disorganise political historical and democratic existence of the indigenes.
The delegates further decided to pursue the Government of India to protect and preserve the historical sites of the region retaining their original names and structures and also to reserve the said sites only for activities, festivals and celebrations related to indigenous culture and history as many of them are found to be abused and engaged for different purposes by different political and social groups.
The delegates further determined to bring to a halt to any form of imposition of language and culture alien to the indigenous people of the region specially among the vulnerable groups like the Borok peoples of Tripura in their educational system and institutions against their wishes as the very inhuman practice challenges not only the tradition and heritage of the same but also acts as a threat to the very survival of the indigenes.
The delegates further resolved to urge the Govt of India to introduce certain constitutional provisions that may immediately bring to an end to the practice of grabbing lands that belong to the vulnerable groups of indigenous peoples specially of Tripura and the NE region at large in the name of development as the very act will lead to uproot the indigenes from their own soil.
The delegates strongly condemned the humiliation and discriminatory act committed by the State Govt of Tripura and Trinamool Congress Party under the leadership of Manik Sarkar, CM of Tripura and Mamata Banerjee, CM of West Bengal against organising the observation in Tripura.
