Imphal, October 14 2012:
Zeliangrong Union (AMN) has clarified that it does not approve the Zeliangrong Citizens Forum's (ZCF) proposed programme to erect a monolith called, Nguiba-Tusom at Makuilongdi village of Senapati district on October 20 .
Maintaining that ZCF did not consult or take consent of ZU (AMN) for the said programme in advance, ZU (AMN) added that its president Amu Kamei would not attend the programme although he had received an invitation.
ZU (AMN) further said that it holds the final authority over Makuilongdi village particularly relating to traditional and cultural matters as the present Makuilongdi village was re-established by ZU (AMN) on May 1, 1979 .
As such, the village itself or any part thereof must consult among themselves and take prior consent of the Zeliangrong Union before going for such important traditional and cultural rites, it added.
ZU (AMN) also subscribed to the view of Guangphuning (Oklong) Village Authority which stated that the ZCF must have the first hand knowledge and correct account about Nguiba and correct site and location of his ancient abode where the monolith is supposed to be erected.
Directing Makuilongdi Village Authority to drop the said programme, ZU (AMN) said that it has imposed ban on performance of any such rite of traditional and cultural importance for the Zeliangrong people, within the Makuilongdi area without prior consultation and consent of ZU (AMN) .
