Imphal, October 13 2021:
Just 48 hours after poll related violence left three persons injured at Andro Assembly Constituency on October 11, unidentified miscreants fired several rounds of gunfire at Andro Maringthel Leikai last night at about 11, triggering panic amongst the people.
It is still not yet clear whether the firing had anything to do with election related matters or not.
According to reports received from the place of the incident, unidentified miscreants opened several rounds of gunfire towards the residence of one Chingakham Mani (30) of Andro Maringthel Leikai.
Seconds before the firing started, the sound of a motorcycle going through the night, most probably a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle followed by the sound of other vehicles, could be heard in the dead of the night, said reports coming in from the place of the incident.
Seconds later the loud report of gunfire could be heard breaking through the silence of the night.
Shaken by last night's firing, people of the locality went and inspected the place from where the sound of the gunfire came this morning and they found a live bullet from the spot.
Another 28 spent cartridges, most probably from AK assault rifle, were also found at the spot.
On receiving information, a team from Andro police station arrived at the spot and collected the live round and spent cartridges this morning.
Later people of Andro area staged sit-in-protests to denounce the firing.
