The Sangai Express hereby furnishes the statement given by a surviving victim of the Lukhambi firing to the police.
Here is the statement given ad verbatim Statement of Jikthanlung Kamei @Rocky (28) son of Huthumang Kamei of Tamenglong Medical Colony Ward Number 4, a/p Langol Tarung.
Yesterday i.e 12/01/2017, I along with Dikhuanang alias Kadi s/o Tajinang (who is my friend and driver) of Akhui/Changdai village, Tamenglong left Tarung village, Imphal at around 9 am for Khongsang where I am looking for a piece of land for opening one oil pump.
Then we entered at the residence of my friend one Thuanilung Kamei son of Namchei Kamei of Taobam (Irang) village who has been working as a teacher at Tent Makers School at Noney.
He contacted to get the piece of and for opening of my oil pump.
I told him a favourable land for opening the oil pump preferably at Irang.
He said that the land for this cannot be available at Irang but he contacted one person at Khongsang who is ex-chairman of Khongsang village.
We picked up Thuanilung Kamei and came out from Irang at around 4 pm, reached Khongsang and met the land owner and talked to him regarding the land.
Then we drove out of Khongsang towards Imphal.
When we reached Khumji part II turning at around 4.30 pm after over taking one oil tanker, around 10 suspected UG cadres (suspected to be NSCN-IM) in camouflage uniform with sophisticated weapons who came down from the hill side on a small footpath fired towards us from a very close range from their sophisticated weapons mostly AK rifles.
I and Thuanilung Kamei, pleaded loudly that we are public and requested not to fire towards us.
The suspected UGs asked him in Kabui language and Nagamese that where they are from.
They replied that they are from Taubam village.
In that the suspected UGs shouted "Minai machasha nakhoida siro (sons of servants, die)' in Kabui language and they laughed and applauded in joy.
I was hit by some bullets.
The driver ( Dikhuanang alias Kadi) was also hit by the bullets and he collapsed on his seat.
I quickly got down off the vehicle and hid in a nearby small drain.
Many stones were also pelted towards us.
Then one of the UG cadres, with a bag on his back came down with one AK rifle on the road and fired indiscriminately towards one oil tanker which was approaching us.
At that moment, he did not fire towards us.
Then he went up towards the hills.
