Imphal, August 12 2019:
Transporter and Drivers' Council (TDC) has
announced that Naorem Manglemjao, a truck driver of FCI from Patsoi Part I who sustained spinal injuries due to an unfortunate accident at Jiribam in October last year and who had been undergoing treatment outside Manipur for the same, came back to Imphal yesterday and the association will be bearing all necessary expenses for his treatment until he becomes fit to get up and walk.
Speaking to media persons during a visit to Manglemjao's residence today, TDC president H Ranjit (who was leading a team of TDC members) said that after being injured in the accident, Manglemjao had been unable to make even small movements and as such, TDC worked tirelessly to get him treated outside the State.
Now, he is able to move his hands, feet and head, Ranjit said, adding that Manglemjao is slowly but surely recovering.
He narrated that Manglemjao was initially treated at JNIMS for around two months but he was brought back home as the family was not able to afford the bills.
After learning about the situation, TDC began work to create a CMHT card for Manglemjao to get him treated and the local MLA also pooled in assistance to the injured driver, Ranjit added.
On April 29, TDC took Manglemjao for treatment to GNRC Hospital in Guwahati.
After conducting necessary treatment and physiotherapy at the hospital, Manglemjao was discharged.
He was then taken to a specialist in Silchar for treatment and massages to improve his condition.
After Manglemjao reached Imphal yesterday, a team of TDC decided to pay a visit to his house today and analyse his condition and deliberate which steps to take up next, Ranjit explained, adding that on August 16, Manglemjao will be taken to a hospital for necessary checkup.
The TDC president further announced that the association will bear all necessary expenses until Manglemjao is able to stand up and walk on his own.
On the other hand, speaking about a group of people who were impersonating TDC, Ranjit clarified that there is only one TDC and it was established in 2003 as an apex body of transporters and drivers.
TDC has always been involved in various State issues in the interest of the people, he added.
