Birth anniversary of Maulana Azad observed

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), led by former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, paid floral tributes to the portrait of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, commonly remembered as Maulana Azad while commemorating the 129th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter this morning.
The anniversary function held at the Congress Bhavan was attended by several Congress MLAs and former Congress Ministers including TN Haokip, MPCC president and a large number of party workers.
Speaking on the occasion, the former CM stated that the day has been observed as a mark of respect for Maulana Azad's role in the Indian independence movement.
O Ibobi said the Congress has been observing the anniversaries of freedom fighters and democratic leaders of the country.
Maulana Azad was a true democratic leader, who believed in secularism and worked for the welfare of the minorities and other backward communities, O Ibobi added.
