Jiribam, May 11 2014 :
Around 400 loaded vehicles bound for Imphal have been stranded at Jiribam due to the indefinite blockade on National Highway 37 imposed by the Joint Forum for Transport Welfare, Tamenglong.
The indefinite blockade came into effect from midnight of May 7 .
Despite repeated pleas and reminders to the authorities concerned, the construction of 40 kilometres road from Khongsang to Tamenglong by the BRTF has been allegedly delayed.
The Forum had submitted a memorandum on April 17, to the State Government in this regard.
Despite the State Government's assurance to effectively resume the work from April 27, the same work is yet to be resumed.
Apart from imposing blockade on the highway, the forum has closed down the PWD office of Tamenglong.
Blockade supporters vandalised some vehicles at Khongsang besides forcing many vehicles to turn back from Noney yesterday.
The forum has also prohibited normal activities of private companies engaged in the Jiri-Tupul railway construction work.
