MLA Nemcha Kipgen sets into motion 38th annual sports meet

The youth of today needs to be readied for the global stage � a generation of young people who are thinkers, inquirers, articulate and confident who can take to the world stage and compete with the best brains in the world, Kangpokpi A/C MLA Nemcha Kipgen stated.
She was speaking at the inaugural function of Tujang Area Youth Association Dais and 38th Annual Sports Meet, 2016 held at TAYA Ground in Tujang area, Sadar Hills today.
Emphasizing the importance of enthusiastic and active participation of youths in community service, MLA Nemcha Kipgen said the youth need to exert one's capacity and creativity to adapt themselves to the needs of the changing times without sacrificing the good and time honoured ideals and moral values.
While stressing the role of games and sports, MLA Nemcha Kipgen said indulging in sports activity is needed for the overall well being of a person.
It is an integral part for holistic development because it is linked to good health, promotes the value of self preservation and a lifestyle that is good for both the mind and body.
It also develops cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship skill, she added.
Lamkholen Kipgen, local MDC and Seikhosat Kipgen, chairman, Tujang Area Chief Organization who attended the function as guest of honour and president respectively emphasized on the importance of the spirit of sportsmanship and discipline in all aspects of their life.
"An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets.
He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head", Lamkholen Kipgen asserted adding that sports is the medium through which a child is initiated into another dimension altogether while his curiosity are nurtured and his energy channelised in a positive manner.
The opening match of the TAYA's 38th Annual Sports Meet 2016 was played between Saikotjang Youth Club and Molsang Youth Club (A) where the former won the match by 2-0.Haominlen Kipgen and Thangboi Haokip scored the winning goals for Saikotjang YC.
More than 24 teams from different parts of Tujang area will be participating in the annual sports meet, the organizing committee has said.
