Bodies merged, new guidelines implemented

Two forums representing private drug rehabilitation centres of the State ie Drug Rehabilitation Centres' Union of Manipur, Private (DRUM_P) and Drug De-addiction cum Rehab Centres' Forum of Manipur (DAARCFoM) has consolidated its efforts to curb unwanted activities and has merged under a common platform of Apunba Drug Rehabilitation Centres' Forum (ADRF), Manipur on May 2 .
A press release issued by the Convenor of Apunba Drug Rehabilitation Centres' Forum, Manipur informed that the newly formed forum held its first general body meeting on May 6 and has adopted various reformation measures endorsed by 35 private rehab centres.
In the meeting, ADRF also resolved to implement uniform by-laws and guidelines which are binding on all the centres until the State Government formulates specific regulations; all private rehab centres shall maintain treatment slot of minimum 30 and maximum 50 bedded in proportion to infrastructure of the facility, all centres/members shall abstain from forced pick-up of drug users/alcoholics and involuntary admissions, consent of parents/guardians of the clients shall be mandatory in case of referrals, all centres shall refrain from any kind of corporal punishment, physical, psychological harassment of inmates, fee structure of centres affiliated to ADRF shall be within Rs 200-250/day (6000 to 7500 per month) .
Necessary action will be taken up in case of violation of the mentioned by-laws, it added.
On the other hand, ADRF, Manipur has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Yengkhom Dhanabir who died in a tragic incident at the Gateway of Recovery Rehabilitation Centre, Pourabi on April 29 and has strongly condemned the act of the staffs involved in the incident and added that the rehab centre was not a part of the private rehabilitation centre forum.
A two minutes silence was observed for the departed soul as a mark of respect.
