Imphal, August 07 2019:
CWC Member and president of MPCC, Gaikhangam has conveyed that the trust and belief of the people in the Congress party is still present, but the only problem is the failure of the Congress workers to recognise this love and trust of the people.
He made the statement during a block level workers' interaction programme which was organised at Uripok Yambem Leikai under the aegis of Uripok Block Congress Committee today.
Speaking at the event, Gaikhangam claimed that the peoples' mandate during the 217 Assembly general election was given to the Congress party which showed that the people from both the hills and the valley loved the Congress.
Claiming that the long 15 years rule of the party showed just how much the people trusted in the Congress, he said that the Congress won 28 out of 60 seats but a party which won just 21 seats formed the Government.
It is really disappointing that the present Government misused its power to form the Government, Gaikhangam said.
By sidelining all proper procedures like show of majority, the party which won just 21 seats formed the Government.
The people are well aware of the fact that the Central Government and the party in power in the State misused their powers to become what they are today.
It is common knowledge that today, the people are living under a Government who does not have a single regard for the law and rules, he added.
Stating that the Congress party is not depressed just because it did not form the Government, Gaikhangam said that though it has not been 3 years since the Congress has been in the Opposition the most disappointing development is that some of the legislators of the Congress are becoming impatient and restless.
He then claimed that the Congress will form the Government not long into the future as it has not violated any political ethics.
The present Government was formed by violating every rule and as such, it will not last, he alleged.
Speaking about the recent scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir, Gaikhangam said that this move of the Central Government clearly shows that it will do what it likes and the voice of the minority communities does not matter at the slightest.
This is similar to a show of brute power, he alleged.
By scrapping the two provisions, the BJP claims that it is correcting the mistake of the Congress done during the time of late Jawaharlal Nehru.
But it is worth noting that Jammu and Kashmir was once like Manipur and Articles 370 and 35A were implemented so that it becomes a part of India.
If this step was not taken, Jammu and Kashmir could even have become a part of Pakistan, he alleged.
Gaikhangam continued that just the thought that a State like Jammu and Kashmir was reduced to a Union Territory so swiftly, is a scary one and added that the people of Manipur and Nagaland need to be alert.
This is why the Congress party, which is one of the only political parties which can face the ruling party, needs to be strengthened, he claimed, appealing to the people to give their trust and love to the party.
On the other hand, he said that the booth level workers' interaction programme has been organised under Mission 2022, with the aim to strengthen the party and to ensure that it wins 45 out of the 60 seats in the Assembly.
MPCC vice president Sagolshem Achouba as well as party leaders were present at the event.
