Huge quantity of drugs and Rs 17 lakhs in cash seized at Lilong

Busting a drug racket, a combined team of 28 Assam Rifles and Lilong Police have seized a huge quantity of drugs which were found hoarded in a house at Lilong under Thoubal district last night.
According to police source, the drugs which may fetch crores of rupees in the International market were seized from the house of one Md Abdul Kalam (30) of Lilong Lou Manga during a cordon and search operation last night.
In addition to the drugs, the combined team also recovered Rs 17 lakhs in cash from the same house.
A police source said that another troop of Assam Rifles posted at Tengnoupal along Imphal-Moreh Road under Chandel district arrested a person yesterday.
From the disclosure of the arrested person, the combined team conducted cordon and search operation at Lilong and arrested the accused Abdul Kalam at around 12.30 am.
Further search of the house led to the seizure of 3.9 thousand tablets of Mucoson (39,000 strips) and Rs 17 lakhs in cash.
It has been establised that the drug consignment was smuggled into Manipur in a bus on Inter-State service.

The source explained that Mucoson tablets are normally used for treatment of expectoration (cough-fever) and it falls under Schedule 'H' drug carrying specific warnings against abusing them.
Each uncoated tablet contains 18 gm of Bromhexine Hydrochloride IP and 60 mg of Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride IP.
In the market, one strip of Mucoson costs Rs 9 .
Calculated at this rate, the one strip of Mucoson tablets seized from Abdul Kalam would fetch around Rs 3.51 in the local market but in International black market, one strip is sold above Rs 30 .
The drugs will most probably fetch around Rs 11.70 lakhs in the International black market.
The source disclosed that the drug consignment was arranged to be smuggled through the border town Moreh.
It may be noted here that a combined team of Manipur Chemist and Druggists' Association and Narcotics and Affairs of Border had also recently seized a huge quantity of unauthorised drugs from some Inter-State buses.
