Imphal, September 06, 2009:
Claiming that the imposition of AFSPA in the State has resulted in countless killings of innocent people by the security forces and that the July 23 incident was a fall out of the said Act, president of the State JD (U) unit, O Raghu has urged the leaders of the party to take up the issue on the floor of the Parliament and call for its revocation.
Raghu put up the matter during the National Council meeting of the party, held at Delhi on August 31. The State JD (U) leader, along with some other representatives from the State, urged the leaders of the party to work for the revocation of the contentious Army Act.
The need to protect the territorial integrity of the State as well as to take up requisite measures to tide over the drought situation in Manipur, was also highlighted at the meeting.
