Imphal, September 05 2017:
Id-ul-Zuha, which fell on Sep 2, was a Government-approved holiday but some schools in Manipur were opened on this day and now the Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) and the Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) want these schools to clarify before September 8 why they were opened on this sacred day for the Muslims .
In a press meet held at the office of the MSF in Keishampat Top Leirak, president of the PSO Md Azizur Rahman said that Muslims have been celebrating Id-ul-Zuha ever since the birth of the religion and eminent personalities like the Governor, the chief minister and others would even send their greetings on this day .
Despite being a general holiday, Rahman added, five schools were found to be open and these include the Heritage Convent Uripok, Herbert Hr Sec School Ghari, SI Academy Porompat, KM Blooming Hr Sec School Khangabok and Khongjom Standard English School Khangabok .
Representing the PSO, Rahman said that he takes the issue seriously and that the schools must clarify why they were open on the holiday .
Taorem Marjing Khuman, president of AMSU Imphal West, echoed the similar thoughts on why the schools were open on Id-ul-Zuha.
Marjing informed at the press meet that the school authorities should be responsible for any untoward incident if they fail to clarify before the mentioned date.
