Awareness drive on the occasion of World Aids Day

Imphal, December 04 2017:
29 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) undertook a maiden initiative to promote awareness about HIV/ AIDS in the remotest rural areas in Chandel distt which are presently devoid of any presence of civil administration.
The Unit planned a four-day long itinerary encompassing various cultural, sports and informative events aimed at increasing participation of local populace and driving home the message about prevention and management of HIV/ AIDS.
Unit in liaison with State health mission preceded the event with an extensive publicity campaign comprising poster and pamphlet distribution in all the villages from 25 Nov 2017 .
Further, HIV checkup desk was setup at Joupi village from 30 Nov 2017 to 03 Dec 2017 under Chief Medical Officer (CMO) wherein a total of 102 villagers were tested.
A lecture was conducted by Chief Medical Officer on 01 Dec 2017 on the subject which was attended in overwhelming numbers.
All COBs were entrusted with conduct of drawing competition on 02 Nov 2017 among children of various age groups in their area.
A total of 110 children participated in the event and their enthusiasm was appreciable.
To enhance participation of youth, a song competition was organized at Joupi village on 02 Dec 2017 wherein there were given a platform to perform and at the same time sensitized about AIDS awareness.
A volleyball tournament was also conducted from 02 Nov 2017 to 03 Nov 2017, among all villages of the AoR to enhance bonhomie and sporting spirit.
There was an overwhelming participation and their energy was infectious.
League matches were organized between participating villages, the final match was between Joupi vill and Hengshi vill.
Joupi vill won the tournament.
Commandant, 29 AR felicitated the teams and appreciated their energetic performance.
The awareness drive culminated with a central church program organized at Battalion HQ with participation of all village chiefs.
A total of 215 villagers were in attendance.
Yet again 'UTTAM UNTEES' continued with its planned and systematic approach to bring awareness about various social economic matters in these remote areas.
