Imphal, September 04 2016:
The Imphal West DC and other relevant officials have been instructed to enquire into media reports about non-distribution of PDS rice to beneficiaries after rice allocated to Singjamei AC for the month of March this year was lifted, stated Forest and Environment Minister and Singjamei AC MLA I Hemochandra.
Speaking to some media persons today, Hemochandra maintained that there no such complaints about non-distribution of PDS rice during his long tenures as the representative of Singjamei AC.
Nonetheless, he assured that relevant officials would be asked to rope into the matter shortly.
There are directives of the Central Vigilance Commission as well as the Supreme Court which say that MLAs should not be involved in the works of Public Distribution System (PDS) .
"As an MLA/Minister, I would never shirk away from my responsibility.
As the PDS rice was lifted by agent, I thought the rice would have reached beneficiaries", Hemochandra said.
An enquiry would be conducted through the DC and the DSO.
Saying that the reports about non-distribution of rice after it was lifted has opened his eyes, Hemochandra said that he would extend full cooperation in the process of the enquiry.
