Bishnupur, August 04 2016:
The Thanga Kendra Development Committee has strongly condemned the police action on fish vendors of Thanga Ithing during a protest demonstration held on August 3 at Sendra foothills.
An order issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate on July 23, ordered eviction of the temporary sheds of fish vendors at Sendra foothills that were developed by the Thanga Gram Panchayat for construction of a vehicle parking lot for Classic Sendra, Thanga Kendra Development Committee convenor H Kulachandra said in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today.
Condemning the eviction, H Kulachandra inquired whether the Moirang Municipal Council has any authority at Sendra which is under the Gram Panchayat.
The committee convenor further questioned why the State Government permitted the setting up of a corporate house (Classic Sendra) at a reserve forest (Sendra Hills) much against the Forest Act of India.
Kulachandra further decried Moirang's claim over Sendra.
The Sendra road, he added, was constructed by the people of Thanga in the 1950s across the Loktak lake to enable movement to other parts of the State.
