Heavy rainfall in the last few days in the hills areas has caused widespread damages in Ukhrul district even as rivers flowing in the state are running above the warning levels.
Torrential rainfall yesterday which lasted for about three hours had damaged standing crops in the paddy fields at Kuingai and its adjoining villages in Ukhrul district.
Former general secretary of Kuingai Students� Union informed that standing crops in as many as 14 paddy fields were damaged due to the heavy down pour.
The downpour was so heavy that water flowed above the standing crops, he said drawing attention of the district administration for necessary assistance.
Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas in the hills, water levels of most of the rivers are above the warning level.
An official report from Irrigation and Flood Control Department said that the Imphal river is running above the warning level.
The level of water measured at Minuthong at 2 pm was at 986.325 which is above the warning level but it later fell to 786.275 meter around 3 pm.
The water level of other rivers like the Iril, the Thoubal and the Nambul were also increased but not crossing the warning level.
The water level of Iril river was recorded at 786.07 meter in Imphal areas but it was recorded at 781.09 meter at Ethai.
On the other hand rainfall recorded today at Kangpokpi was 63mm and at Saikul it was 25mm.
