Medical camp for HIV/AIDS infected women and children held

The 6th annual medical cum awareness camp organised by Tabitha Children Home commenced from today at the Home's Mantripukhri complex.
The five-day event, during which awareness campaigns would also be organised is being conducted exclusively for HIV/AIDS infected women and children, said Tabitha Home programme coordinator M Ayo.
He conveyed that the medical camp is being conducted from october 2 for the past few years to enable HIV/AIDS infected women and children from far flung areas have easy access and affordable treatment/health checkup.
Apart from bearing cost of transportation, along with fodding and lodging expenses of patients from remote corners of the State, Tabitha Home provides cloths to those who attend the medical camp, informed the programme coordinator.
Confiding that the Home had been managing to foot the bills out of the income generated from its garden, piggery farm and catering services, Ayo said on the four remaining days awareness programmes on various issues would
be conducted.
Out of the total of 16 children staying at the Home 12 are said to be HIV positive and half of them under ART medication.
Till noon of the medical camp's opening day, nearly 170 patients had availed multiple services and the number is likely to cross the 200 mark when the camp ends at 4 pm.
patients from Chandel, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Senapati, churachandpur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts attended the medical camp held under the supervision of about 20 medical practitioners, including specialist doctors in gynaecology, medicine, ENT, orthopaedics, urology and paediatrics.
Technicians of Babina Diagnostics Centre also attended the camp and provided disease screening facility at the occasion with screening of some serious cases carried out at free of cost while X-ray and ultrasound testing were done at discount rate.
Public Optical Centre also offered 50 percent discount on purchase of new spectacles while nursing staff members of Shija Hospitals assisted the doctors at the medical
camp.
