He stated that JCILPS student wing decided to take action after the authorities concerned failed to heed the association's demand to evict the said fruit sellers within the deadline set earlier.
Manjit conveyed that police personnel, traffic police act high and mighty towards women vendors who try to sell vegetables and other items along the roadside in and around Khwairamband Keithel, but they (police) are not able to do anything against the non locals selling goods on the footpath. This attitude is gradually empowering the non locals and making them arrogant, he claimed.
However, additional police forces arrived on the scene and around 28 volunteers, including Manjit Sarangthem, were picked up by City police.
It may be mentioned that on April 25, JCILPS student and women wings had demanded the authorities concerned to evict the 24 fruit shops in front of Bhairodan Maxwell school within three days.
