Kangpokpi, April 02 2017:
Northern Area Kuki Youth Union (NAKYU) and Mayangkhang Area Youth Organisation (MAYO) have addressed the deplorable road condition of NH-2 particularly from Kangpokpi DHQs to Senapati DHQs.
The issue was highlighted in a joint consultative meeting of NAKYU and MAYO at Mayangkhang today.
Speaking to media persons, MAYO president S Rockson said, "It has been learnt that the bill of 2015-2016 for repairing the road is yet to be cleared by the department concerned" .
He said, "Work orders had been issued to the local contractors for repairing NH 2 in 2015 but even after two financial years, the bill has not been cleared" .
The two organisations decried the alleged discrimination towards the tribal contractors by the PWD.
It is a matter of grave concern for the local populace over the non release of the bill and the presence of many potholes along the NH 2, he added.
He stated that the organisations have urged the department concerned to clear the bill on or before April 11 and added that they will resort to any form of agitation including total bandh and blockade from midnight of March 12, if their demand is not met.
In connection with the present deplorable road condition of the NH 2, NAKYU and MAYO urged the department concerned and the State Government to take immediate measures so as to avoid road accidents.
He further stated that the department concerned and State Government will held responsible for any road mishap along NH-2 .
