Imphal, April 30 2021:
The Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) has warned off a series of agitation in case the State Government fails to act on their demands for conservation of 'Koubru Laiphamlen' .
The general secretary of UKAL, in a statement, demanded the State Government and the Central Government to take up necessary legal actions against those involved in causing a fire at the Koubru Leikha Temple and punish them according to the law of the land; to prevent and evict new settlements in the Kanglatongbi-Kangpokpi Reserve Forest area to safeguard Mount Koubru; to make a clearcut demarcation of 33 square miles of the Reserve Forest area and to protect shrines and temples of Awang Koubru Asuppa which are historically and religiously important under Historical Monument Act by declaring it as a 'protected area site' .
The general secretary of UKAL also appealed to all concerned not to indulge in activities that could hurt the sentiments of an individual, any community or religious group, while carrying out agitation as called by the body (UKAL).
The Meitei community, which have been binding all other communities towards a peaceful co-existence for ages, should uphold its spirit as ever, the statement continued.
