Police furnish brief achievements of 2020

In line with the Government's War on Drugs, the State police destroyed 2847.5 acres of poppy plantations and registered 31 cases arresting one person in 2020.As many as 3,151 FIRs were registered and 459 cases were chargesheeted.
As many as 257 cases were registered under the ND&PS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act and 356 individuals including 299 men and 57 women were arrested in 2020, said police.
Most of the arrests came from busting heroin, brown sugar and WY tablet smugglers and peddlers.

While a total of 113 persons were arrested for peddling/smuggling heroin powder, 84 were arrested for trafficking brown sugar and 70 for smuggling WY tablets.
In 2020, a total of 211.83 kilograms of brown sugar, 18.47 kilograms (approximate) of heroin powder, 146.34 kilograms of Ganja, 186.02 kg of opium, 16,31,210 WY tablets, 1,17,092 capsules of Spasmo Proxivon and other narcotic and psychotropic substances were recovered, said a police data available with this paper.
Even as a total of 257 cases were registered under the ND&PS Act, 22 persons were convicted in 19 cases, said the police.
Other seizures
The police also seized 43,68,954.5 litres of DIC liquor, 24,863 litres of IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) and other banned tobacco products including cigarettes, spit tobacco, betel leaves and nuts (Supari) etc.
The State Police arrested 313 insurgents and two persons were detained under the NSA (National Security Act) .
In various counter insurgency operations and others, the State police arrested the 313 insurgents and seized about 160 guns of different types apart from recovering huge cache of ammunition and explosives including Chinese hand grenades, IED bombs and TNT etc.
A total of 20093 persons were imposed fines for violating COVID-19 guidelines and MV (Motor vehicle) Rules.
Rs 32,25,690 was collected as fines for Covid related violations while Rs 5,34,750 was collected under the MV Act, said the police.
The police also arrested 14 vehicle lifters and recovered 23 four wheeler and 25 two wheeler vehicles.
In addition to maintaining law and order situation in the State, police also took up various steps to improve public-police relations.
Churachandpur district police alongwith district administration organised Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, a capacity building programme for rehabilitation centres in line with Government's policy on anti-drug campaign.
Police also conducted Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaigns and Jan Andolan campaigns.
In view of COVID-19 pandemic, police erected fences along porous Indo-Myanmar border areas to stop movement of people across.
Fencing were erected from Border Pillar No 73 (near Yangoubung village) to BP No 87 (near Saibol village), Suangphu area (between BP No 39 and 40), Suangdai (BP No 35 and 36), Behiang village (near BP no 41), Pakmul (BP No 37) .
Frequent patrolling was conducted in the porous areas and temporary border fences were also erected at Poi and Tusom areas in Ukhrul district, said the police.
